HP are becoming more and more of a pain, new printer models that use the912 and 963 CARTRIDGE SERIES, customers are finding that the firmware setting options are locked (by hp, not the user)
If this is not done, then you run into issues with ANY aftermarket cartridges when the next update occurs, HP will blocked the CHIPS on the cartridges when an update occurs and you will not be able to print.
(These updates happen every 3 months)
1. make sure lcd screen is on the home page.
2. Press home, back arrow, home, back arrow
3. If this is done correct, your see Enable Disable Menu.
4. Click on this option.
5. Scroll down to turn off firmware update. (turn off)
6. Press back
7. Press back again, now you should be at the Home page.
When the above is done, when an update occurs, your printer will not download and your inks still will work and show ink levels.
