HP are becoming more and more of a pain, new printer models that use the912 and 963 CARTRIDGE SERIES, customers are finding that the firmware setting options are locked (by hp, not the user)
If this is not done, then you run into issues with ANY aftermarket cartridges when the next update occurs, HP will blocked the CHIPS on the cartridges and you will not be able to print or sometimes the updates take the ink levels away and they still work. (90% of the time chips are instantly blocked)
We reset the microchips with every update before they leave the store so they always work with latest firmware.
(These updates happen every 3 months without fail)
1. make sure lcd screen is on the home page.
2. Press home, back arrow, home, back arrow
3. If this is done correct, your see Enable Disable Menu.
4. Click on this option.
5. Scroll down to turn off firmware update. (turn off)
6. Press back
7. Press back again, now you should be at the Home page.
When the above is done, when an update occurs, your printer will not download this and your inks still will work and show ink levels.
