posted 25th September 2026
HP have combined the HP 302 and HP 304 ink cartridges into one new cartridge - the HP 302/304 (and HP 302XL/304XL). Making one cartridge instead of two, and putting less ink in it, makes it cheaper for HP to produce.
The old 302 and 304 cartridges are being phased out during 2026. If you already have them, they will carry on working as normal.
Any printer that took a 302 or 304 will take the new 302/304 - HP DeskJet, ENVY and OfficeJet models.
BUT HP are now putting around 30% less ink in the new OEM cartridges. The XL Black has dropped from 8.5ml to just 5.5ml!
| HP Cartridge | Old HP 302 | New HP 302/304 | Difference | World of Inks 302XL/304XL |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| XL Black - ink | 8.5ml | 5.5ml | 35% less ink | 18ml - 227% more ink (over 3x) than the new HP, and 112% more than the old HP 302XL |
| XL Black - pages | approx 430 | approx 300 | 30% fewer pages | - |
| Standard Black - pages | approx 170 | approx 120 | 29% fewer pages | - |
| Standard Colour | 4ml / approx 150 pages | 2ml / approx 100 pages | 33% fewer pages | - |
| XL Colour | 8ml / approx 300 pages | 7ml / approx 300 pages | 12.5% less ink | 18ml (6ml per colour) - 157% more ink (over 2.5x) than the new HP, and 125% more than the old HP 302XL |
GOOD NEWS - the World of Inks HP 302XL and 304XL cartridges we currently offer are our own premium cartridges, and they hold a LOT more ink:
18ml of Black and 18ml of Colour (6ml per colour)
That's over 3 times the black ink of the new HP 302XL/304XL (5.5ml) and more than double the colour (7ml).
They also show ink levels, just like the original HP cartridges.
